I love the miniature art you share on your Instagram. What initiated the idea?
Bombay is a city where one is constantly scrambling for space. Even if one collects things, there’s no space to store them. That’s what got me started on miniatures; an intent to create mindful collections that are easy to store and keep at home.
How did collaging and journaling start for you?
I belong to a time where we used to write letters and I had pen friends from different places. The idea of collage, I think, was built from there – decorating the postcards and letters that I would send out to them; and then that sort of furthered into my work.
Journaling came about after I joined art college. The idea of documenting the process of work was what was important there and not the end product; for it’s the process that leads to many other solutions that one can revisit. That led to the idea of journaling, and also of conscious documentation – for back in those days there were no phone cameras for a swift capturing of everyday work processes like today. A camera reel would only allow a limited number of clicks – 26 photographs to be exact.
